surgery of hernia
Hernia repair is performed in ambulatory surgery. In general,
we prefer open procedure with mesh patch. The incision is
about 5-6 cm in the inguinal/abdominal region for the implantation
of the net, which is about size of 8x11 cm to cover the defect
on the inside of the abdominal wall. The mesh is partially
resorbable and very reliable for stress and pressure.
For the methods of hernia repair differ, we gather information
and explain to you
the differences of methods.
Depending on the indication methods
in hernia repair can also be done by:
sublay technique
shouldice-repair
plug and mesh
method
bassini repair
laparoscopic procedures
(tep or tapp)
The decision for mesh patch depends on the hernia Grad I-
III, the age of the patient, the tissue stress (sports activity
etc.) and the general tissue problem (recurring hernia patients).
By ultrasound the regeneration process after 6 weeks of surgery
can be studied and shows the patch is included by collagen-tissue
within this time period.
Recovery time varies in every patient ! However, most patients
feel that they can do normal activity right on. In general,
after ambulatory surgery we want to see the patient the next
day after surgery in our office. We recommend to wait until
the 2nd day after surgery for travelling or business activities.
The removal of "one single suture” can be done
on 12th -14th days after surgery, showering is possible after
3rd day of surgery with a special "wound-dressing”. |
